I am someone who will spare no expense for my skin. My mum had been nagging me to look after my face since I was a teenager – buying me products that I didn’t deserve at the time and yes I never used them (well at least not as often as I should have!). Anyway, mum swears by Kiehl’s.

Kiehl’s is a brand that has been recommended to me many times before, from friends and mummy alike. One product in particular had been mentioned a few times – the Ultra Facial Cream.

Anyway, I heard from a friend that the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream was a good alternative to the La Mer Moisturizing Lotion that is extremely effective but costs a bomb. The Ultra Facial Cream has a similar consistency and I found had a similar feeling on my skin.

But there are two versions – the regular version and then the Intense Hydration. I decided to try both and see how my skin reacted over a 7 day period. I used the Intense Hydration at night – applied in an upward motion on my freshly washed damp skin before bed. And then I used the “regular” version in the morning straight after my shower. I have to say it’s a much of a muchness for me – both were extremely light weight and absorbed quickly into the skin. I didn’t experience any dryness throughout the day or when I woke up – the hydration was certainly locked in for 24 hours. Even though some of the ingredients contained oil, I didn’t notice any clogged pores (which is what I’m prone to with oil-based products).

I also tried out the Iris Extract Activating Treatment Essence and found that it was a worthwhile step before applying the moisturiser – kind of in replacement of my user toner (but I didn’t notice any instant pore closing effect – if that’s what you’re after you’ll still need a toner for that). I added about 3 drops into my hand and patted the essence into my skin and neck – always extend your beauty regime down your neck and décolletage. This product promises to “instantly reveal radiant, smooth and younger looking skin”. I don’t know if it exactly does that, but it certainly manages to prevent the skin from drying up.

The Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream was the non-oily hydrator that I used as a primer before putting on makeup. This was fab as it moisturised but also works to reduce the appearance of a slick face – perfect for under foundations and BB creams with SPF etc that can look oily throughout the day’s wear.

This also felt also like the consistency of a collagen mask – leaving no greasy residue and was immediately sucked into my skin! This was one of my favourites I have to say.

THE VERDICT // I love the fact that most of these products are paraben-free, fragrance-free, colorant-free. That is a huge bonus to my sensitive nose (I can’t stand strongly perfumed products) and my sensitive skin – both clogged pores and also allergic reactions and redness. I really liked all the moisturisers and would also as they were to me, recommend them to others. Overall I would purchase the Ultra Facial Cream and the Ultra Oil-Free Cream again.
